Crazy Hat 2011

15 04 2011

With Global Finals just around the corner, I thought I would share my DI hat for this year. As with every new season of Destination ImagiNation, I have the sudden urge to make a new crazy hat.

I normally make the hats out of unusual items like Christmas ornaments, flowers, bottle caps and other interesting items. The hats all share a common theme: they are made with the base of a cowboy hat and somewhere on the hat is feathers.

Now, my initial goal this year was to make a hat without feathers, as it’s an item I use every year to help cover the hat. Alas this year I was unable to go without feathers, but I’m proud to say that the feathers made up less than 30% of the hat this year.

If you couldn’t guess, the theme for the hat this year was the sun. I found some really interesting floral items at Michael’s this year and wanted to design the hat around them. So this is the result!

I hope you enjoy!

Coming to a computer screen near you!

22 02 2011

Dear DIVA Community,

Last year, I began work on a documentary about three teams participating in Destination ImagiNation in Virginia. Several months have passed since filming for the film was completed. Many hours have been spent cutting together the footage to tell the story of the teams participating in the project. I am proud to announce that the film has finally been completed!

In order to share this project with the community, every week I will be posting a short two to three minute episode to my blog, The Discovery of Duct Tape for everyone to view. An episode will be posted every week leading up to Global Finals. I will also continue to post informative videos on different aspects of the program.

I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this project, I would never have been able to complete it without the support of the Virginia DI community, especially the teams that volunteered to be featured in the project.

If you have any questions about the project or would like to obtain a DVD, please contact me at amhoekzema@gmail.com.

The episodes can be viewed here: http://discoveryofducttape.wordpress.com/

The first episode will be posted this week.

Good Luck with the upcoming Regional and Affiliate competitions!

Sincerely,

Abbey Hoekzema

What does a challenge solution look like?

23 10 2010

New to DI? A little confused on how all the duct tape, glitter, glue card board and trash comes together for competition? Look no further.

There is a brief explanation of what the challenge perimeters were and a shortened performance. Generally, performances go from about 6 to 8 minutes. For the sake of the internet, the most important parts are highlighted
